AWWW MAN! I do the normal use and do all the fluid changes but I am sitting at almost 220K and that means it probably is bout to go. I a sad and probably should put money away for a new one.Tanx
with proper maintenance it can last for over 300k. Do things like when you park, place your car in neutral first, put it on handbrake, release brake, press brake again and put it in park. This way you're not stressing your transmission too much

The one in my 1994 525i went out at 145,000 miles. Never mistreated, never towed anything, filter fluid chgd every 50,000 miles. Cost for repair was $2,200, in Calif.
The auto trans used in the 6 cyl cars has a different manufacturer than those with the V8s. 6 cyl cars use a European GM trans, the V8s use a BMW trans. Trans Man said that the BMW built trans are much stronger than the GM ones. Greatest weakness in the GM trans seems to be the plastic thrust washers, which break or melt. Best advice I can give you, is keep the fluid clean, and never let it overheat.
