I think its time for a new tranny... i've always had a problem with my 4th gear grinding due to a shatty synchro, but now when i was drving it today i felt a knocking on the shifter in 1st gear, but only when i step on the gas. It was as if someone was tapping the shifter with a hammer... Is it time for a new tranny?
Dude, I saw a picture of your car.. very nice. And yes, it sounds like you'll be need ing a new transmission, it's getting worse by the description. I hate when that happens..
sigh... just got a quote-> 1100 for the tranny, 480 for installation, and i should get a new clutch for 375. I changed the tranny fluid myself last week, and i think that is the reason its all pingy and shyt. Im gonna go get it changed today. hope this works. BTW thanx los!
thank you BMW gods... i just got my car fixed today, and it wasnt the tranny at all. It was some rubber spacer between the driveshaft and the tranny, which was torn to hell and had frayed yarn coming out of it. Both me and my mechanic agree its like driving a brand new car. 275 dollars later, my car feels like its brand new. Yay!
BMW Gods??? I'm going to start praying to these Gods!
That's good news... Go easy on the tranny from now on...
Did you find out what caused the rubber spacer to get damaged?
Man the thing was toasted when i pulled it off, and apparently it was put on wrong, the holes were off by one. like putting the bullet in a six shooter but not in the barrel that fires, if you can picture it.
