Unhappy Tranny fluid replacement

SOS! My husband is still trying to figure out how to replace the tranny fluid. He is aware that there is no dipstick, unlike GM's but now the question, how does one go about replacing the tranny fluid? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Would appreciate a diagram if at all possible. Thanks

exactly what model?
what mileage.
auto or manual?

If the fluid has never been changed, and you are over 100 thousand miles dont change it if its an automatic. your tranny will shift hard and youll need a rebuild. Or it will be much more likely.

otherwise...the bottom of the transmission should have two bolts. One is the bleed screw and the other is the fill. You let the oil out one, and the other is to refill.

So once you empty, replace the screw and pump fluid into the other screw. (This one has a "tube" that let you know when you have filled it enough. because the fluid will start to leak out.)

This is an easy, maybe too simple explanation. So Let me know if you need more detail.

re tranny fluid replacement

You were asking about the make and year of this car. It's a 2000 540. Hubby says he can only find one plug on the bottom of tranny.

i assume your car uses the ZF tranny...

*if you do change tranny oil, make sure your replacement is a manufacturer specified oil. Aftermarket(off the shelf ATF does not work on BMW transmission)

... if by chance you don't see a resemblance to the attached illustrations, then what is on your car is a GM tranny. Should that be the case, let us know and i will post the GM tranny drawings for you.
