I'm new here...seeking information. I need to tow a 2700 lb trailer approx 4000 miles annually, but I don't want to drive an SUV or pickup. 270 lbs of tongue weight, plus another 250 lbs of gear. Mostly flat freeway travel. I presume that aux tranny cooler and temp gauge would be wise...feedback on this? Does anyone have first hand knowledge about the merits/demerits of using a 325iT for towing?
I'm assuming you mean a 525iT as the title says, and they are barely powered to move themselves, IMO.
If you're bent on towing with a car, make sure whatever you get is a stick. I know of no auto trans in a car that would handle towing well at all. You'd also want something with more torque.
My only thought would be a Caprice Classic wagon. Put some HD shocks on the back and stuff a GMC 1500 trans into it. It should bolt up to the 350 that's in there already.

It's possible, with your overdrive off, a hope and a prayer, but that is a lot of weight to be pulling. Get yourself a chip, you're gonna need it.

I have a 525it bought new in 1992 and have had no problems until it reached 212,900

Miles ago. Now it has a difficult time shifting into 4th gear. Sometimes it just won't . Can't go Back to garage that did the repair ( out of business) found a New Mechanic that has been very helpful but we need a Trans2000 pigtail
To read the 4L30E trans. Can anyone out there help? Car is too good to give up on.! At the same time instruments ref: trans operations doesn't light up. Feels like a electrical problem as the replacement trans looks clean and good inside..! Thanks so much in advance..!
