Tips For Another E34 !!!please!!!

wats up e34 people!!! lol i have a question for anyone that has owned a 1990 e34.

i found someone that is selling a 1990 e34 stick shift. can anyone give me any tips on what to look for before i buy it?

right now i own a 1993 e34 auto but i noticed that the engine is different.
any help is good help i just wanna know if its worth the buy. any major places that the car fails on?????

180k-200k miles around that...
stick shift
the engine is a M20B25 (googled it)
cloth seats! (i was amazed)

The engine in the 1993 is a better engine. It is an m50 24 valve engine with vanos variable valve timing. The m20 engine which they last made in 1992 is a 12 valve engine with no vanos. 1993 was the 1st year of vanos and the 24 valve 2.5 inline 6. The e34 with an m20 is a sled that cannot get out of it's own way. Ask any m20 owner. If you are going that old, go with a 535 or a 540. The stick will help but it is a very slow car.

The M20 M50 switch actually happened in 1990, so there are some 1990 out there with the M50. Obviously the M50 is a much better engine, you have experience with and I am sure you love it. After having a 525i with a M50, the M20 will be a huge let down. I would say to find a 1991 or a 1990 with the M50 if you would like to get an older model. I don't know what price they are asking but you should be getting a good price, my 1991 525i in perfect condition was only $2500, the asking price was $5000 though. Strike a deal if you find the right car and share some pictures when you do.
