I have a 1990 535i . I am starting to get a thumping sound from under the car.
Not sure where. It doesn't hit anything under the car, just this sound at low speeds. Any suggestions?
is it when starting from a stop or accelerating? If the answer is yes, then most probably you have a bad driveshaft support bearing. Check your rubber flex disc or 'guibo' at the tranny end of the driveshaft (looks like a rubber donut). It it's a thump when shifting into reverse or forward it probably is the differential mount.
I was going to suggest letting grandma out of the trunk ....
