I was thinking of buying this 97 540i, and was looking to get your 2 cents on what to look/look out for. First time BMW Owner.

-150k
-No Service Records
-Needs Paint
-Salvage

Obviously there is work to be done on this car. Get a mechanic to check it over mechanically and be prepared to spend money on it to get it back into its former glory. The modifications indicate that it may have had some rough treatment in the past, so keep that in the back of your mind as well.

As Brett said, and inspect the chassis and the running gear for issues...
What type of claim/accident was the car involved in?
TBH the price is not far off being fair but would try to lower it best I could !
Bear this in mind too, the E39 540 is the next best from an M5 and will be a classic in a few years !!!

The car was in a crash in 2001. He claims the engine and transmission were replaced? Im having the car inspected tomorrow.

Before purchasing, I'd also consider how much you are willing to spend to restore the vehicle -could be as much as you're buying it for! However, the 540i is a classic BMW, and if there are no serious issues it could be a very rewarding investment. Do your homework!

Drop that price to 2500-3000 TOPS mate, alot of work needed... Bet the modules don't like the car at this time!!??

Hi there my friend gr8 car there ,its a nice catch,but just letting u know . be prepared to spend more on fixes then what u will spend on getting the car, couse to put this car in a respectable way u will spend minimum 3.500 dollars
