This is Murphy from Taiwan, nice to meet everone here!!
I have a very old E34 525i(MY1990, 5MT, Europe Version), and recently I can hear a strange noise from the button of my car. And the machenics told me that is the sound of the differential, there is no safety issue but if I want to end up this noise I have to change a differential.
I find a used 1993 differential from 525i, the ratio is 3.23, but I do not know the diff ratio of my car and this 1993 used diff ratio can fit my car? Some one told me that the diff ratio of my 1990/E34 525i is 3.73, is that true? Can I use that diff?
theres a list of differential ratios there. I believe the 1990 with the m20 is actually a 4.1 but could be a 3.73.
Either way , since the engines are different, the diff's are probably different too. changing to a lower ratio one would just slow the acceleration down a bit.
