I recently took my E60 on its first long trip. After driving 200-300 miles I noticed the cabin getting rather warm. As it turns out the vents in the car seemed to be blocked by something. I could hear the fan running, and hear it change speeds when I used the manual adjust, but no or very little air was coming out of the vents.
I turned the climate control system off and opened the windows for 10 or 15 minutes and bingo, the AC was again working and airflow was restored.
I repeated this AC off, windows open, AC on, operation at least 3 more times on my trip due to air not coming out of the vents.
I'm pretty sure the vents are freezing up after extended operation, but talking to a couple dealers in the Detroit area they are unsure as to what might be causing the problem. I don't really want to be the first one to have their car worked on for a problem that is intermittent and very time consuming to duplicate.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas on exactly what the fix for this problem?
welcome to the forum, i am an ann arborite. not quite sure i have heard that one yet. Obviously the car is quite new and some problems are still to be addressed. I would probably just call a few other dealerships in the state. Like Williams in Lansing, and Bmw of ann arbor and talk with them to see if they have had anythings like this. good luck.
