stereo code.

Hi everybody I bought E39 540i model 1997 and i want change the battry so if I disconnect the power from the car do i have to enter code for the stereo ?.

I'm pretty sure that e39's do NOT have radio codes. The code function was only on the earlier models with the standard-sized radios.

and i'm pretty sure it does
i think my 528 did have it, but i believe the only time you'll have to use the code if you car has been disconected for quite some time.

If you do find you need the code you will have to go to the dealer to get it...we never charged for it, it happens.

The E39s do have radio codes. Some dealers require you to bring in the car, while others will give them to you free of charge. Just give them the last 7 digits of your VIN. Good luck.

The radio has it's own code, it's not just the last 7 of the vin...but it's true most dealers will give you the code for free...as I said S**t happens.

So that's mean if i disconnect the power for a short period and I replace the
new battry nothing will happen to the stereo .

Go ahead and disconnect the battery. Nothing will happen with your radio. I also have a 97 540i and had to replace my battery. Check the link below for my experience with it!
