Everyone's had this happen before where your wheels are slightly turned when you park, so when you put the key in to start the car the key won't turn. Well, this happened to me earlier this evening and I couldn't get the key to move. So I moved the steering wheel to see if that would help and I completely locked up the steering wheel. I can't move it AT ALL. I've looked in the maintenance manual and there is no mention of this. I was thinking it may be a car theft prevention feature and there would be a simple solution but I can't find anything. Anyone have an answer for this or know anything about this? or will I have to contact BMW in the morning? I have a 2006 525xi.
This is gonna sound stupid but did you wiggle the steering wheel while you tried to turn the key? Often the wheel is not moved enogh for the key to unlock the theft feature. Try wiggling it while trying to turn the key. Often times it takes some muscle to wiggle the steering wheel.
