My old (1989) 520SE has a dangerous occasional habit of momentarily not responding to the steering wheel when turning right or left on nearly full lock. Suggested cures would be much appreciated.

umm yeah get a new car fast!!

serios note: really get a new car the amount of money to fix this problem is not worth it. sounds like the pinion is worn out in the rack and the centertakeoff unit is not taking off anymore.
