1999 540i - makes sort of a 'static' noise emanating from the center of the dash (somewhere around the heating/cooling and radio controls. Even with the radio turned off and the key out of the ignition, the noise persists.
I have a '01 530i s/p/5spd........I have the same "hissing" noise up around front console. Used to drive me crazy, but just gotten used to it. Since I have no problems with the car, i'll just leave it.
This has been brought up so many times...it's normal. It has to do with the climate control system, from what I've heard, but every single E39 does it. Don't worry.
