Unhappy Starter keeps spinning after start up.

Hi everyone my 1995 525i M50 starter died last week. I tried two different starters in the car after each were bench tested and working properly. Every time I start the car it will run great but the starter will not shut down . Of course I shut the car off before I fry the new starter. Also I confirmed the ignition switch is working correctly. (Brand new and tested.)

--Ignition switch replaced and brand new.

--Starters are wired correctly.

--Two different starters and solenoid same issue.

My E34 does not have a starter relay, it has EWSII.

Any ideas will be helpful because I am out of them!

Welcome to the Werkz.

Have you compared the design/configuration of the original starter to the replacements? Is it possible that the new starters are slightly different in the way they mount relative to the fly wheel, so that the solenoid isn't letting the starter retract fully from the flywheel?

And, are they Pre-engaged or Throw starters?

Thanks for the reply's! Yes I did compare the design/configuration of the original starter to the replacements. They both fit with zero issues and no grinding. The starter is a throw type. I saw them bench tested and they both engage and disengaged properly. I am beginning to think that my EWSII module is malfunctioning and allowing starting voltage to the starter at all times. Since the EWSII module controls the starter and acts as the starter relay. I am currently researching on bypassing my EWSII by buying and installing a "Bosh Motortronic M3.1 Red Label 413 DME. Along with changing some wiring around. My reasoning is simply if the EWSII controls the starter, maybe it is locked up in the start position even after start up. Does this make sense, anyone agree with this?
