During hot days (>30 degrees C), my 535i tends to stall whenever I change from Reverse to Drive. It is then very hard to restart - it takes a good 20 sec for it to turn over again with the accelerator pedal on the floor. Also when I come to a stop and then accelerate there is a noticable lag (GO pedal is depressed but engine is not responding).
I have recently replaced the spark plugs but it may be the spark plug leads.
Did you ever figure this one out cuz mine just started doing the same thing today and i had to get it towed cuz i couldnt get it started for the life of me
I took the car to the BMW mechanics and he did manage to reproduce the stalling condition (which wasn't hard btw). He then replaced the ignition coil with a second hand unit and tried it again. It didn't run. He then put my original coil back in and it started first go. He then couldn't get it to stall for the rest of the time. He wasn't sure if that was the real problem but he guesses it was just a loose electrical connection.
It hasn't stalled since.
Hope this helps but no one really knew what the problem was.
