I've got a 1999 528i, 51000 miles, love the car. Just recently though I started to have a couple issues and I thought maybe someone out there might help me identify the cause...the car starts just fine every morning here in Chicago, but after about a 3 minute warm up the car stalls out. WHen it starts to cut out it sounds like it's lopes a bit, like it stutters, and then it cuts out. But it starts right up again and after that no issues...runs fne. A coupe times though after restart I notice the temp gauge spikes all the way, then I turn it off, restart it, temp falls down to right in the middle and the car runs fine and off I go..But every morning I can count on it stalling once.
Then today I noticed I could not lock the doors, first I tried the key fob and nothing, then I tried the center key lock button and still nothing. I left the car unlocked all day and then this evening it worked just fine...??? I thought maybe a battery in the key fob??? but then why wouldn;t it lock with the center console lock button??
Any thoughts? Fuel pump? Still looks like I'm getting 20.1 mpg...which is normal...
The stalling seems like a possible water in the fuel issue. Could be some condensation in the fuel system that takes a few minutes to get to the fuel pick up. As to the lock, was it possible there was something not quite closed? That is just what my mom's Jetta does if one thing, like the deck lid, isn't closed completely.
