so yesterday i purchased a 1994 525i. I had my mechanic check it out. Everything cleared inspection. All the mechanical and electrical aspects of the car clear. The only thing wrong with it is it has two markers bulbs out. NOT A BIG DEAL. This car is in prestine condition. Anyway. The problem. i drove my girlfriend to work this morning and upon getting to her work the SRS lights on my dash. I know it has something to do with the airbags. Byt what exactly does it mean,? and what do i need to do to fix it?
thanks
Keith
also, is their an online owners manual somewhere? Mine didn't come with one. n
Heres the issue, if it stays on for like 5 mins when your driving, theres a capacator on your dash that is bad, you need to have it replaced or risk late deployment/no deployment of airbags.

the light came on and stayed on constantly even after turn off and turning on the car. I searched online and discovered this is a somewhat common problem with at least my model. The solutions i came about were go to BMW and have them reset it. Buy the tool suggested above. I have a good friend who owns a shop and has all the proper scan tools necesary to reset the light. Apparently the light goes on for countless random unexplained reasons. It's reset now. if it goes back on it'll be a trip to the dealership.
Does not mean to scare you (looks like a 3 series problem not the 5er) but don't take SRS very lightly and I quote:
September 3, 2002
Following reports of 41 injuries from BMW side air bags deploying without a crash, federal safety regulators are investigating the bags used in more than 200,000 BMW cars sold in the U.S.
BMW has already tried to solve the side air bag problem with two recalls. But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says its records indicate 265 complaints of side air bags deploying after cars hit curbs, potholes and other objects. BMW has reported processing 212 warranty claims involving side air bags.
The bags were installed in BMW 3-series vehicles built between April 1999 and April 2001. BMW recalled 20,500 3-series vehicles last month to reprogram the side air bag controllers. Earlier, it recalled 34,000 vehicles built between June 1998 and March 1999 for a similar adjustment.
There have been no reports of serious injuries or deaths associated with the problem. The 41 injuries were mostly cuts and bruises, NHTSA said.
