Speed Sensor Gone Bad

TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT TYPE THINGS HAPPEN TO YOUR CAR WHEN THE SPEED SENSOR GOES BAD, AND WHERE IT IS,,,,,,,,,,

No speedo and wipers will only work at fastest speed.Auto boxes have the gear changes screwed up because the ecu has no speed signal and gets confused,this can flag up trans program and engine will go into safe mode with loss of power.Its mounted on the diff with just one wire coming from it.
