Hey guys, here's the deal. I have a 1995 525i, production date 8/94.
Most of the headgasket went smoothly, until it came to setting the timing and getting the upper timing chain to cooperate.
I was having some trouble getting the vanos unit's gears to mesh properly with the cam gear on the end. While removing the cam gear, I snapped off one of the studs that holds the cam gear to the cam. No big deal right? Ordered three new bolts, they just showed up yesterday.
Here's the diagram I'm looking at: RealOEM.com BMW E34 525i timing gear timing chain top
The stud is #6 on the diagram. Now from what it looks like, there are two #6's. 11361735909 and 11361403824
When I ordered the studs from bavarian autosport, they sent me the 11361403824 studs. I believe I needed the earlier ones, but it says those are ended. So... what do I need to get this to work. Here's a picture of the two bolts next to eachother. Newer one is on the right, the one that came out of the 5er is on the left.
Just need some guidance what the best course of action is. Should I try to track down the older part? or should I change the other parts to work with the new studs? Obviously the former is cheaper, but I've been unable to find them so far. These three bolts are keeping my car off the road at this point... so it's kind of a priority.
