hello first timer so bear with me.i have a 1994 525td which is throwing out a lot of blue smoke on cold start a bit better when hot but not much.it also feels like its not running on all six cylinders vibrates on the clutch pedel until you get to around 2500rpm then it feels smoother i changed the injectors but is still the same.also it sounds a bit tappety at top end until revved hard.any help would be much appreciated thanks.

it has a turbo correct is it making boost?.... maybe the bearings are going check the intake pipe after the turbo for oil..

thanks for your help there is oil in the intake pipe after the turbo.how do i check if its making boost and does the oil in the intake pipe mean the turbo has gone thanks again for your help.

yep clean the intake out and then drive it for awhile see if the oil is comming from the turbo... most likely sounds like your turbo needs a rebuild or replacement...

hello.today i cleaned out the pipes from the turbo to the intake manifold was quite a bit of oil in it.the turbine spins free enough but there is a bit of play in the bearing put it back together and started it up still runs rough when cold pumping out blue smoke but was a lot better when engine was hot.still feels like its not running on all six cylinders.does the turbo only need slight play in it to make it run rough thanks again paul.

I dont know the numbers for the amount of playon the turbine.... when was the last tune up? try a valve adjustment? it could be the valve guides to....

hi i bought the car about eight months ago.it was a non runner the owner said he went through a deep water and since then it never ran right then not at all.when i got it home the bottom crank pulley rubber had perrished so i replaced the pulley and got it to run which is where i am at the moment trying to get it to run right.i also replaced the clutch master cylinder which had siezed but now is fine.arent the valves hydraulic lifters although it does sound tappety at the top end could this be the reason for the smoke plus apparent misfire.not that well up on diesels but i would like to get it running right as its a nice car and a shame to see it sat on my drive going nowhere at the moment it has a good service history with it.thanks paul.

.... ran threw deep water? probably sucked in alot or water.... turbo is probably toast then... might have bent something internally... have a shop do a compression test and leak down test if you cant do this yourself
