I've had my 528 for sometime now, and I never understood (or bothered to look for) the significance of why the car needs to notifiy you (beep) when it reaches 37 degree F outside? does anyone know this answer? Sorry if this is a noob question, just was curious.
lol, my 540i does it too and I've never been able to figure it out. Does someone know how to shut this "feature" off?

MY VW does it at 39. They assume that's the temp when ice can be on the road. Of course, the air temp can be higher than the road temp, which is why they have the higher alert.
SpeedFreak has it exactly right. Ice can form on bridges, overpasses, and suspensions fasterand easier than anywhere else. The 37* warning is just another little BMW "safety-esque" feature...plus it just sounds cool.
LOL!! Yeah the beeping is cool! Just like the beep that sounds when your driving and one of the doors is open!!

Yeah, Mine does that as well, I don't know if it is just the older e34s but I can turn the "BEEP" off on mine. The purpose of this is just to alert the driver that conditions are favorable for ice to form on the roads.

Hoot,
This is just a safety feature to notify you that you are approaching temperatures where you may find ice on the road. If you have turned your traction control off, this may be a good time to engage it again. I personally never run with thr traction off.

yah that beep still freaks me out every time it goes off i don't know why but i still get confused for a second or two till i go oh, its 37 degrees out, sweet. the best was the first time it went off on me this semester of school, there wasn't just a little ice, but there was a ton of ice and almost a foot of snow on the ground.

Well, congratulations on getting to use a measurement system that MAKES SENSE. One thing that will never cease to irritate me about the US is that we wound up using the imperial system--I mean, come on, in metric everything is base-10, it doesn't get any easier than that! But no, we have to have 12 in = 1 foot, 5280 feet = 1 mile, 16 ounces = 1 pound. I want to find the guy that thought of that shit and drop a 1000 kg brick on him OK, my rant is done now...
