Service Port Won't Communicate

Just failed NJ Motor Vehicle Inspection because they could not communicate with my Service Port (they call it the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System). A few months earlier I followed the extremely detailed and well presented instructions of CiscoKid and successfully reset my service indicator lights on my 2000 528i. Now I don't know if the problem was caused by my poking into areas I shouldn't have been (at least the wife thinks I'm to blame), or NJ DMV is screwed up. Any thoughts?

plug it into another scanning tool; yours, the mechanics if it communicates then it is the Garden state's fault; if not it is your computers

Thanks billB. Took it to the BMW dealer, and apparently there was some kind of disconnect back somewhere. Charged me $100 but now works well enuff for inspection.

I see you quoting me without questions; whats up? I am in NJ; as for your inspection you may want to consider a gas station with NJMV inspection machine; you'll get a sticker for 2 years for about $80; where in NJ are you?
