Hi guys, Im new to this forum, and new to BMW's in general, I had just bought a 1997 540i, and my alarm seems to be very sensitive to big trucks driving by, and loud noises, have any of you experienced the same thing. Is it something that I cn adjust myself, or do I need to take it to dealer.
Also, My 6 CD changer skips very often when I hit bumps while driving. Is this normal?
if you hit a large enough bump, or a bump just right the discs in the changer will skip, there is nothing that you can do to stop that. hopefully it doesn't happen too often though. if it seems to happen far too often, try a cleaning disc, or just cleaning the cartridge or something, the thing could be dirty since the car is 7 years old and dust and stuff builds up over time
i am not sure how the alarm can be adjusted though, sorry, hopefully someone else will be able to shed some light into this subject.

I own a 1997 528i and I have had the same sort of trouble with my alarm. I haven't even necessarily noticed the trend of loud noises or wind. Im anxious to get it fixed though.
I read somewhere that if you click the lock button twice to activate the alarm, it will reduce the sensitivity... Try it.
I also own a 97 540i which I just purchased. My siren just went dead. The unit may have to be replace at the dealer. The lights flash when "on" but there is no siren sound.
The siren is located on the rear right side of the car. The rear tire needs to be remove to access it. Again, I read this on some site, can't remember which one!
