I have owned my '93 525iSE Touring for the past 3 years and until this morning had not had any major problems.
I took it for it's MOT this morning and it failed on "Excessively coroded suspension pipes"
Now I normally do my own maintenance, but with the weather being a little dodgy and not fancy doing the work lay on my back in the road, decided to take it to a garage to get a quote for the repairs
It needs a metal suspension pipe + 3 suspension flexi hoses that all go into the same unit above the left hand driveshaft.
The garage quoted me £200 labour + parts, which should take it up to around £350, which I don't have at the moment
Is this something I could do as DIY, or do I need specialist equipment. Someone has told me that I would need the use of a pump.
My only other alternative is to park it up on the drive and leave it until after Christmas when money should be a little less of a problem.

I do actually work in the automotive trade, so getting hold of a lot of parts is not a problem.
As an alternative solution, would it be possible to change the self levelling shocks/springs for standard shocks/springs and cap off the hydraulic pipework.
To change the pipes plus shocks (one shock has a slight leak) is going to cost me approximately £650
I could fit standard shocks and springs for about £150
