Does anyone know how does the security system funcion on a 1999 model E39 series.
When you lock the car door with the factory remote, is there a security system that prevents theft or is it simply a key fob for locking and unlocking doors and trunk.
The vehicle will not start without the correct key input...BMW models are equipt with EWS systems Yours should have an EWS II or III system...either way it requires the correct code signal from the key for the vehicle to start...there is no alarm function without adding the siren and motion sensors, but I think this sufficiently answers your original question
Speaking of E39 alarms... has anyone ever had this happen? It seems my alarm was going off for no reason at all until I happened to coordinate my alarm going off whenever I left my BlackBerry in the car... the other day I was walking up to the car, I received an email on the Blackberry, and instantly my car alarm went off! Was wondering if it was just coincidence, or was there something in the transmission of data to the BB that was causing the alarm to trigger. Too strange.

it is a possibility that the frequency of the BB is the same as of the alarm - but its highly unlikely.
IT is also possible that that frequency can somewhat affect the car like say cell phone use in the plane during take off. IT's a possibility, but in the case of the plane, for your cell phone to affect the plane's controls, you gotta have 1 powerful ass phone.
