My second key's battery failed. I put in a new one and 'reprogrammed' it according to the handbook. It will open and close the car etc but won't start it! Any suggestions welcome.

Sounds like the transponder chip inside the key for the EWS (driveaway protection system) may have failed.
Probably will need to replace the key
