Rumbling Upon Acceleration

Hi I have a 2002 525i E39, 4dr automatic - I am getting a very noticeable rumbling in the rear end when accelerating from a stop.

It seems like it is not engaging and I am not getting off the line like it should be. Like it is running out of gas almost.

I cannot "gun" it at all. Not that I am a speed demon by any means, but I cannot accelerate quickly from a dead stop.

Is this something anyone has experienced or has any info on?

Thanks!
