This past week I had the clutch replaced on my '99 540i. The clutch works perfectly except I notice a very slight roughness to the engine since the replacement. The idle is slightly reduced from it's original level and is relatively smooth with no starting issues. On increasing the RPM's however, a very subtle roughness is apparent when idling and under acceleration. Prior to the replacement the engine ran perfectly smoothly without any performance related issues other than the clutch of course.
Does anyone have any ideas on what may be contributing to the problem.
hi there, i had the same prob with my m5 e39 the prob is that u changed theclutch kit but not the flyweel!? i really recomend u do that as fast as possible , im having alot of probs since i changed my clutch kit , and maintained the same flyweel , its a quite expensive part but try to change it as soon as possible so u dont get the same prob i had , lost all gears one month after getting a new clutck kit , a lesson to learn to all e39 owners , if u change the clutch kit (disk) and the car , its not perfect its because somethings wrong . Unfortunably i learned the wrong way , and now probably ruined the new clutch kit that was instaled , and will need to buy the flyweel.
Haa forgot to say ,(if the noticed roughness shakes your car a little bit when start rolling , both in 1rst gear and reverse)stop driving the car imidiatly wile u dont change the flyweel , 540 and m5 are very semiliar , very heavy cars , with hard punches to transmition and drive train , so dont push your luck . ill let u know what happens with my M5.and again!! stop the car my friend.
couse mine its stoped couse a semiliar prob, i also noticed roughness with the new disk , and a considerabel shaking when releasing the clutch).
if the car doesnt shake (just metal on clutch kinda noise)probably its just the new clutch disk and plate ,getting used (making bed)to a flyweel that already has usage and that will go away with time , if it shakes , its trouble.
