1988 BMW 5-Series E28 5 lug 4.72 inch or 120mm Medium Offset

2001 BMW M3 E46 Front 5 lug 4.72 inch or 120mm High Positive Offset
2001 BMW M3 E46 Rear 5 lug 4.72 inch or 120mm Medium Offset

If you get a set of rears off the M3 it should fit fine. Not familiar enough with the fender sizeing of the E28 to tell you if the fronts will clear. It also depends on tire size.

You can also go to tires.com. You can look up the wheel size, lug nut pattern, and offset for most vehicles.
