Any experts hear of a 525 Touring having intermittent problems of the reverse/backup lights staying on even if the car is off and in Park? Opening the hatch sometimes turns them off. (loose or busted cable?)

Check the fuses

Is this an automatic or a stick?

It's an automatic. Wiggling the shifter doesn't do anything.

Dang it! The fricken manual is missing that schematic....

I'm looking at 93 model and it says that there is a switch just below
the RH side of the transmission. What's interesting is, the wire is only
"hot" when in start or running mode. You mentioned the lights are
"on" when the car is "off" in your case..... It has to be some type of
short circuit just before the switch.

That's all the info I have... sorry!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to go ahead and assume it's a short somewhere and try to track it down from there.
