Has anybody replaced the crankcase ventilation valve on a 540? Mine ('98)has begun to blow smoke, and the local tech said it was probably a bad CV valve ($500 - $600 to replace). I know it involves removing the intake, but my TIS (e-bay special) doesn't provide much detail. Also, does anyone know if the Bentley manual covers this? Thanks!

Your car, an E39 M62 (4.4L) engine is almost the same as a '95 540i (M60 engine, 4L). Use it as a reference
