| Replaced ignition switch on 2000 528I….need help please. I finally got around to replacing my ignition switch last night and it cured all of my electrical gremlins (thank god). However, when putting things back together, I ran into minor obstacles and was hoping some of you might be able to help.
1. Lower torx bolt - after I removed the lower torx bolt, a heavy rubber piece fell out from under the steering. I believe that this part is for vibration. When putting everything back together, I placed this part logically and I think I have it in the correct position. However, I did not see exactly how it was positioned underneath the steering column. Do any of you have a picture of underneath the steering column that would show me if I put this part back in correctly? Or would any of you have a drawing of how everything connects to the lower torx bolt underneath the ignition switch?
2. Upper and Lower Plastic Steering Column covers - When re-assembling, I can only get the left side to snap into place flush. The right side will not snap into place. I re inspected the tabs and none of the tabs are broken. Has anyone encountered this problem and how did you correct it? Or, does anyone have any tips on getting the upper and lower to snap into place?
3. Electrical connector - The electrical connector that plugs into the ignition switch does not snap or lock into place. When I plugged into my new ignition switch, I noticed that it just slides easily in and easily out. Should it lock into place? Or does it even matter?
Thanks for all of your help.
