I fixed the mirror base to the windshiel first with the 3 minutes clear epoxy glue. Hold the part to position until the glue is set may be 1-2 minutes. Allow the glue to cure for about 12 hrs before put back the mirror.
Lately I saw a pack of epoxy glue for fixing the rear view mirror on the shelf at the hardware store. Do not remember the brand.

Can anyone tell me how to put back the rear view mirror (528i) ? I am having trouble to put it back after I accidentally knocked it off. Thanks.

I am having the same problem. The mirror has fallen off. I have removed the housing around the mirror shaft and removed the mirror completely. HOW DO YOU...remove the round metal button from the mirror to glue it to the windshield? I cannot find any allen screws or any other means of attachment. I dont want to pry it off as a new mirror is big bucks. Is there any trick to removing the metal button, so I can glue it on the windshield then put the mirror back on the metal button? ghead
