I noticed whilst driving with the window down I could hear a rattling noise coming from the rear of the car.
After getting underneath it and shaking a few things around. I narrowed it down to the rear brake callipers rattling. Has anyone else expirienced this problem ? and can you get a rattle clip or something for this ? or is there a cheaop easy fix ?
You need to verify that the OEM anti rattle clip is in fact on the rear calipers & is installed correctly. They should not rattle if it's on there.
Go to this site & see Item#3 where he shows a picture removing the anti rattle clip to see what it looks like. this shows the front caliper but it's the same for the rears. BMW E34 Website
Yes I noticed the same thing, it drove me nuts thinking about what it might be, CV joint, diff mount, bushings, etc... but upon further inspection I found that the inner rear brake pad was loose and moves up and down freely. So Mm guess is the device that holds the inner pad secure has failed. shouldnt affect braking performance too much just the noise is concerning but now that I know I dont worry as much. will fix it soon.
