I just got a 2005 525i. I have about 700 miles on it and have noticed going over bumps and uneven surfaces that there is a rattle/pop type noise in the steering wheel/dash area. I can not localize it but it only happens going over bumps at slow speeds. It is definately inside the cabin and sounds like metal on metal contact. It is not loud, sort of muted almost like it is coming from under the dash. I think I am just going to live with it until the first service and then research it then. I don't feel like taking the car in and having the service guys tear the car apart and possibly make more problems. Any ideas???
maybe a loose bolt or screw of some kind?
once you go over a bump, it flies up and hits your steering column maybe? the hit is not hard so it won't be loud, but it is metal on metal.
and then it falls down again, waiting for the next bump before performing the superman flight once again.

It doesn't sound like a bolt or screw. Its more of a creak like two pieces rubbing or banging against something. At first I thought it was the door but its more towards the front center, heck I don't know where it's coming from?
There are so many things that it could be that your not going to pinpoint it here on a forum. Take it in. The guys know what they're doing, and if they make more problems, they'll fix it. Make good use of your warranty. You paid a lot for a car, don't live with squeaks and rattles until your next service! thats just crazy.

See my reply to your post in the E60 Problem area above. Could be the creaking door seals. I have them and they can be hard to isolate. What you describe sounds like my noise as well, but I now have it from all four doors, so it si kind of hard to miss...
