johnbmw is an unknown quantity at this point
I've recently bought a 1990 E34 and every now and then the coolant fluid starts to spill out through the cap...the first time this happened I though it was just that I left the cap lossened, but it keeps happening over and over again. Why does this happen? can somebody help me out?

thanks..

maybe you have too much coolant in there.... when the coolants/hoses are cold to touch your coolant level (in the expansion tank under cap) is suposed to be up to KALT (cold)...
]
when coolant heats up it expands and the cap is made so it opens up a bit to release excess amounts (if you have too much in there to begin with)

Maybe you should get a new cap, doesn't cost much.
I had a 95 E34 which had a recall on the radiator cap.
