Putting VF supercharger on next week..few questions
Hey guys I'm putting the VF Engineering SC on my '97 528i and I wanted to know what other BMW differential I can use..preferably with an lsd? I think we can use the e36, but I'm not positive on that. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Be sure to get some input from Teh Prof (Nathaniel) as he has one on his
E39 540. I of course also have one and am headed to my shop this PM to have something checked out. The performance is great, but there have been issues with product reliability, etc over the years. My advice, for what it's worth to you is to get some mor einfo before you totally commit.

MAKE SURE to prime the supercharger with oil before you use it. One good way to do that would be to run the car for ten or fifteen minutes without the belt attached to the s/c but with all the oil connections hooked up.
Thanks for the info guys..I'll make sure to prime the sc too. I have the FI bug, so reliability issues kind of suck to hear about. The kit's already paid for and on the way...hope it all goes well.
I run my car for 5-10 minutes every time before I drive it to get the oil flowing. I do not, however, and have not - ever, primed it without the belts attached. An interesting point to put to my shop this PM. We shall see.
As to your new kit, I'm also sure that so long as you do things the right way, you will love your new kit! Enjoy!

If Russ didn't prime it before it first spun up, he's an idiot.
I'll be sure to prime it first...just for good measure. Just out of curiosity..is the SC pretty audible? I've raced at 1/4 miles a bunch and every supercharger I've ever heard is pretty loud. I don't have an aftermarket exhaust mind you.

Agree - the VF SC unit is quieter than most. Listen for the distinct "whistling" sound, especially at the end of revving it while you're at idle or when your revs drop after coming out of gear to a stop.
Please note, a grinding or screetching sound is NOT what it is supposed to sound like, not at all
If you experience the above, do be sure and act immediately to remedy the situation, lest earlier threads which brought the phrase "catastrophic failure" to life come to apply to your own situation...I'm just sayin'...know your car and the sounds it makes so you'll know if it ever makes some it shouldn't ...just hypothetically of course...

PS - I heartell VF just came out with a Stage II kit which brings in an intercooler and some other goodies and ioncreases the boost by about 1/3 and kicks in earlier at lower revs. As always, be careful what you wish for...

I have a 97 E36 M3 and plan to install either a Dinan, Active Autowerkes or VF S/C. I've heard Dinan is bullet proof by many sources but not sure about AA or VF. Has anyone heard any feedback from people with these installed both positive or negative? If so, what?
