Purchasing

[E39ken]

Can anyone tell/warn me what to look out for before purchasing a used E39. I am thinking about a 00/01 model 523i/525i auto.

540 or 530 applies more to the US models......whenever you see 523i think European models and/or outside the US where in some cases a 540 becomes a liability and a very bad choice in terms of duties/customs or high gas prices!

and E39KEn: where do you see this 523I.....which country? Cann't be the US!!!!

Hey billb,

You are right. I am paying a lot/too much for this car and cannot afford to puchase a 'liability' hence the reason for my request for help. The used price for the 523i 2001 is equivalent to USD43000. On top of that if I were to get a 3/4litre car I will be paying more than USD1000 in road tax every year on top of the insurance. I will not even go into replacement parts yet! By the ways, I am in Malaysia. It kinda kills me to think that when I was living in Springfield, MO I purchased a brand new E36 M3 for only USD30+k!

So any advice on what to look out for
