My beautiful calypso red e34 525 got a little injury today. I made a u-turn, but was going extremely slow so I figured there was no need to take my foot off the gas. When I went into the u-turn, before I even turned sharpy, the car downshifted (and it did this before under normal driving conditions and scared the crap out of me) and the back slid. I corrected it, but since i was driving casually, and not aggressively I only had one hand on the wheel and was rather relaxed. After I corrected as much as I could (which was not enough obviously) I clipped the back of a Chevy blazer or something and the whole front portion of the fender is nice and pushed in. It's rather ugly. But theres not even a scratch on the other guys car. which is a good thing. I'll put up pictures later.
I realize this was totally my mistake and I'm not blaming it on the car at all, but I'm rather confused because the way the back slid was TOTALLY unpredictable and so much different that what it usually does. I also NEVER hear my tires screech, and this time even over loud music, they squealed like crazy and the car continued to have a bit of a slide after I let off the gas. A while back somebody mentioned something being wrong with my rear subframe or something, but... I'm totally confused as to why it was so unpredictable.
I'll put up pics later and I'll be doing all the body work myself so I'll let you all know how the progress is going. what a day.

The unpredictable downshift is a bit frightening though, I bet you nearly shat yourself!

Thanks! but correction:
That's a shame man - that was a totally wicked looking bimmer.
lol :P
and yes, I had a bit of a scare, but the worse part was I didnt even feel the small impact, I just heard that noise. The noise that you just know nothing good happened at all.
This will be a bit of an expensive project and a lesson well-learned, so...blah
poor car!
Well, you know what to do. Find yourself a fender and a good reputable body/paint shop. I love that lil car of yours too.
BTW. The same thing happened to me and i totaled a BEAUTIFUL green BMW. Caught a downshift on a patch of gravel. Wet road...the rest is history

ouch, yeah I remember you saying that a while back. <sigh> No need for a body shop, I'm doing all the work myself. Either way, its an expensive project, though. High quality paint isn't cheap. Painting is a big hobby of mine and I have all of the equipment for painting cars. As I said earlier, thats actually new paint that I just laid down and just got messed up. lol.

e39 540 isnt really in the running, I don't like the e39 nearly as much as I already daily drive an e39 528. The only reason I'd consider the e39 528 is because of the rack and pinion steering (which the e39 540 does not have). Overall, the e34 is so much more of driver's car, its loads more fun, but after seeing how easy this happened, I might like the safety of the newer vehicle.
