Please Help... Need To Get Home

hi all...

i was getting my stuff together to go home for thanksgiving break and all of a sudden the car is dead as a doornail. its a 91 525. i checked everything and nothing was left on over night. the int lights dont work or anything. i opened the trunk and the trunk light came on. so i tried the int lights again they work now too. so i turn the key and NOTHING!!! now the lights dont work in the int or the trunk. checked the batteyr connection. its tight, good ground. get jumper cables from my buddy. go to push the car back, turn the key to unlock the steering weel and the dash lights all come on. turn the key all the way and she starts right up. wierd as i ddid nothing and hadnt yet hooked up the jumper cables. so i let her run for a bit even tho im pretty sure the battery is still fully charged. shut off try to restart and completely dead again. ghead someone told me that the ignition switch is prolly bad but that dosent make sense to me why that would make the whole electrical system not work. if anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it. i really want to beat rush hour in ny

Same thing happened to me the other day, just as you describe it, all I had to do was clean very throughly the battery connection. These cars need alot of elecerticity to make the initial start up, and a dirty battery connection will limit the cars' electricity power. it'll have power for everything in the car except to start it up.

yup... thats exactly what it was. i replaced the neg cable and its working great. thanks so much for the help
