Hello everybody.

I have a 1990 525i and was wondering - If i were to add a performance chip, Is installing it a big risk? Will it decrease the reliability of the car in anyway?
Thanks.

if you have a M20 then you will need to start using premium gas, but it should not hurt the reliability of your car. installing it should be easy, but it will take the engine a day or two to get used to it

I also wanted to ask -

How likely is it that a chip can fail and cause the entire computer to fry??

Thanks again

i really dont think it would be bad to run 89 octane in a M20 no matter what kind of chip is in the ecu because it doesnt affect compression, but i would probably use premium just in case. if you have a M50 (which i think started in the 1991 525's) then you have to use premium no matter what. its not likely that a chip will do any harm to your ecu if you buy a conforti or a another big brand, and its not like it can crash like Windows can
