passenger door handle

Ok so my 89 525i passenger door only opens from the outside I have taken the door panel off and looked inside it appears the the cable going from the interior door handle to the mechanism is broken. it's a wire with a plastic cover that opens the lock from the inside. I can't find this part on line or in a catalogue can anyone help me locate this part? Anyway it's item 12 on the attachment

Thanks
haggus

Pelican parts has them - I had to replace mine on my 91 535 on the drivers side door.
Pay close attention to your production month and year - they changed part numbers in September 1990.
The cable will run you about $5.00.

BTW - On realoem they list the BMW part number. I have had pretty good luck googling just the part number and finding part suppliers that way.

If you can - un-screw the locking mechanism from the door so you can easily access the part where the cable hooks in. There are 3 torx head screws that hold it to the door.
I couldn't on mine because one of the torx heads is stripped. So I had to reach inside a tight area to hook the cable to the mechanism - hard to see and reach - I had to use flashlights and mirrors - talk about a major PITA.

Yes the door latch is bolted to the door with three torx bolts. You need to remove it to do the cable. The latch is connected to the door outside handle. You may have to remove the handle too. Then again maybe not. I did both.

The cable is hooked to the latch.

Yes I've had the interior door panel apart and could see how little room there is too work in there. I have the bentley manual it shows how to remove the locking mechanism. I think you are right it will most likely be better to remove it and then re-install the whole mechanism. thanks again for all the replies.

Oh yeah the part is coming from Germany so I don't expect it to be here for a couple of weeks.

thanks haggus

thanks haggus but i can't seem to find that part in the diagram. It looks as if it is attached to the large locking mechanism piece. (picture below)

does anyone have a used handle/lock mechanism they would like to sell me?
