boeuf is an unknown quantity at this point
i have a 97 540 and i need an oil change but dont want to pay $105 at the dealer, what should i look for in a garage, which oil should i use, synthetic or regular, and is there anything eles i should know about oil changes and bmw's

diehard_vue is an unknown quantity at this point
I use Castrol Syntec (synthetic, the expensive ones). You would need about 6 1/2 quarts.

8 quarts of syn oil, german filter, reset the maintenance reminder, call you sir and wash the car. The best $105. you could spend at the dealer Don't let them talk you into other stuff

I have a 98 528 sport, and the owner before me used regular oil... should I bother to switch at this point?
