well, i think i found out my problem with my oil leak and rpm jumps, on my 528E bmw, there is this line running from the oil pump and it goes above my distributor cap and the onto abyss; The oil is being pumped up that line and then the oil sprays out onto my frame and my powersteering(pump im guessing?) but yeah there is supposibly no oil going into my engine now and that is why it is running so crappy, does anyone know what could be causing this or what i could do to fix this? is it a new oil pump neeD? hope not since there 200 dollars . but any suggestions on where to look? i didnt get replys on my other posts about this kinda stuff but im hoping someone will look at it and give me some tips? thanks!
yeah do what furious says, and if you dont see anythign theres a very simple solution to find out your problem from there.. go to a dealer and pick up a bottle of oil dye, then get your hands on a black light pour the die into the engine turn it on and flash the light on it. works everytime.

sweet alrite, ima try to take a picture of exactally whats happening tomorrow so maybe u guys can get a better idea of wahts happening, but its not exactally spraying out of the pump, its running up some wire then falling off that wire, it looks like an electrical wire. ima check the line and also do taht dye test tomorrow, thanks for the tips and i'll keep ya posted!
well, i thought i'd ask a pro; i went to this shop down the street called autoban exotics. He kicked ass, he helped me out alot and told me my problem is probably my rocker shaft plugs and my camshaft seal, he said thats where it seems to be coming out of the most. to go about replacing these, i know the distributor cap and everything needs to be taken off but anything i need to expect that maybe someone else learned from when they did this? any suggestions will be great! and thanks for all the suggestions from everyone, hopefully my car will be up and running with no problems in no time! rebuilds are fun...
so i wanted to see if u guys could help me find where the rubber rocker shaft plugs are? i have a few pics of under my valve cover so maybe someone can point out where it is on the pic and lemme know, thanks!
M5,
the rocker shaft plugs are located at either end of the shafts in the head, lift the valve cover gasket up and you will see them. There are four, pry them out with a screwdriver. When you replace them, make sure that the slots are free of oil. The oil pressure switch is located next to the oil filter, pull the wire and see if any oil is there.(very common leaks) HTH
