Question Not sure about my dip stick, '97 528i

Somebody please help me. Just bought my first BMW. Used. It's a '97 528i. And I love it. But just checked my oil for the first time and u can't tell how to read my dip stick. As you all know I'm sure, it's got a plastic tip. Kinda seperated into 3 sections... Well the top two on mine move, they are cracked apart. Still I figured the middle section was the gauge. Till I noticed the top section has two markings. About the usual spacing on a dip stick. And of course, NO MANUAL. Someone please help a brother out!!! Thanks

If i remember correctly, the three sections each stand for a quart. I.E., one quart low and so on. Oil should be at the third mark on the small plastic tip to read full.
