No heat, Oil smoke in cabin, service engine light all at once

2000 540i third owner. Bought in May and everything functioned and it ran fine. accident Sep shattered windshield and damaged radiator. Battery died and had water in floor trickle charged Batt and it came back to life. Began removind water from floor and replaced windshield. Replaced radiator. Upon test drive the "check coolant level" light came on. Also the temp gage pegged on hottest indication although the car was cold at the time. Coolant level was a little low but the heat selections and blower work but the air wouldn't get hot. Topped off coolant but temp gage still pegs as soon as the car starts. Returned home and noticed smoke in the cabin. Smelled like engine oil. I did use degreaser to remove residual sludge while radiator was removed but not sure how residual in engine compartment would enter cabin. I messed with the heat controls a while trying to get the air to het warm to no avail. Shut the engine off. Tried restarting 3 times. It turned over "bumped" like it was going to "light off" but didn't and continued turning over till I switched off all three times. When it rains it pours. I'm on furlough till Feb and unemp ends 12/23 so I can't afford to take it anywhere. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on these issues. Thanks and Merry Christmas
