I recently took possession of a '92 535i, black on black, 5 speed in pristine condition from a family member. It's a beautiful car, but let's be honest, in the summer heat with the A/C on it's incredibly underpowered and could use a serious boost anyway.
I know I can do a chip (already has TriFlo exhaust I installed for dear old mom years ago), but it needs another hundred horsepower, not 20 etc.
I can't find anything... does anyone make a turbo/supercharger for this car? A buddy of mine told me many in search of serious performance upgrades just switch to the M5 motor. How much "creative" surgery is required in this swap?
Sorry for the newbie questions, I'm not some kid with no intentions or ability to do these things, but an engineer trying to start some genuine research. Hopefully I've come to the right place.
Alex
Edit: Browsing around on the forum I found TCD, which looks interesting and uses a T04E. Not a small turbo eh? But based on their site, I'd be nervous there would be a significant possibility for custom work to get it installed and working properly, and they have nothing about max boost they're running, dyno charts, fuel requirements, installation, the a/w intercooler, etc. I don't want to spend hours in a machine shop to install a "kit" if you know what I mean. Anyone know anything about this "kit." The sheer list of applications scares me:
are you retarded? for a 3600 lb car. this thing hauls ass. I lvoe mine and consistently beat the crap out of pretty much every no turboed car that wants a go. but if you want more power, dinan. that is all.

I guess you didn't read his post. He wants to add horsepower, not beat the "crap" out any any non-turbo car that comes along.
To Bahnstoermer: as you see, the young bucks on this board go around calling newbies "retards" thinking that will somehow motivate you to continue your membership on the board.
If you want a serious discussion, look else where. If you want to hang out with a bunch of kids with little money, education, writing ability and a lot of bull, stay here.

Hey thanks I appreciate the advice Silver4Evr. I will indeed look elsewhere. Have you heard the quote: "Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience." Well here goes nothing...
Stuka, if you think a 535i is fast, you've got a lot to learn. My 94 RX7 is fast, my '02 Honda CBR is fast, my mom's 6 speed 540i is even kinda fast. But an early 90s 535i? I had a stock Maxima with 180k miles that was faster! Are you racing those high HP NA Civics all day or what? God forbid you find a stock Mustang GT to "beat the crap out of" :P
Anyway, for the rest of us. Thanks for the advice guys.
