I know I'll probably get bashed for not searvhing this forum, but I'm at work and don't have a lot of time. And i need help with my car..So here goes the story.
I hope someone can help me out here?
First of all my car is a 1990 525i automatic. 60,000 miles on the clock.
One owner with meticulios maintainence.
Sunday night my alternator/water pump belt snapped.
While trying to find a spot to pull over the coolant temp display came on and the guage went into the red.
I parked the car, and had it towed to work Monday.
When I moved the car into the shop at the end of the day, there was some antifreeze under the car.
I pulled the lower skid plate off to get to the belts and there was coolant on it. I inspected all hoses, none where blown.Btw, the previous owner just had a new radiator, hoses, coolant, etc done.
So I put the new belt on, and wiped any antifreeze off.
Coolant level looked ok. While driving home last night on the high way, the coolant light(display) came on again and the guage went into the red!
I live about a mile off the highway, and was about a mile from the exit when it happened. So I continued home. Just as pulled over to the curb at my house, the low oil pressure light flickered on. I shut car down.
When I opened the hood, steam AND smoke!!
Smoke was coming from the exhaust manifold area.
Sidenote..I had ice cold air blowing out of the vents on the highway.
After a few minutes, steam started coming out of the big vent on top of the dash, and I noticed a drop of antifreeze on my driver side floormat?
Radiator was enpty today, and I had the car towed to a shop today.
Car started and sounded fine this morning(I ran it for a min or two)
Please help? I hope it's nothing major? Head gasket? Heater core? I'm lost.
I'd like to have some kind of idea, when the shop calls me, so I won't feel like I'm getting ripped off.
This is my second BMW, and i really like the car.
Did you bleed the radiator after the the antifreeze was put in, also check the Aux water pump located near the brake booster... Your problem sounds like Aux water pump or the water pump
