new owner and painted rim question

I own a '99 540i sport and the rims that came with the car are loosing their painted surface in an alarming rate. I thought I read somewhere that a chemical could have been used on them and it caused the paint to raise off the rim...? Possible?

Also, I looking for another set of rims for it in time for summer in Seattle and came across these:



Anybody use them?
Specifics:Size - Front 18 x 8.0 / Rear 18 x 9.0
Bolt Pattern - 5 x 120
Offset - Front +20 / Rear +25
Centerbore to fit - 74.1mm

Awesome looking wheel. I am looking for a 99-2000 740I and those wheels were one of the factory options. They will determine if I buy the car based on weather they ar eon it or not.

They look like a nice set of rims, they should fit the 5 series, although you might need to confirm the center bore.
Have a look at your existing wheels and check the width and offset figures.

Why not refurb the original rims? Acid-dip and repaint...
