I've always wanted an old school BMW and recently purchased one. This site was very helpful in what to look for when I purchased one, so thanks a lot for that advice. I'm a new BMW owner so I don't know what the E30 and such even mean but I bought a 1994 530i with the V-8 3 liter and automatic 4 speed transmission. I have researched many threads but they didn't exactly cover my current problem. The only thing the dash read out gives me is low washer fluid, it leaks, and brake linings. My problem is a popping or misfire. I originally thought timing chain(s) but it's too intermittent and comes and goes. I then went to the plugs and replaced them, while this improved the problem it didn't cure it. Cold or warmed up makes no difference either. It's my understanding the car sat for a prolonged period of time so now I'm thinking a sticky valve. Under hard acceleration at high rpm's (5000) or so the car runs like new. The idle is also perfect. It does it under light acceleration intermittently and doesn't matter what gear the car is in. I am having trouble finding a repair manual or code checker for this year and model, any suggestions? It also appears the more I drive it the less I have it. I changed the oil when I bought it and used no additives. I wouldn't think it's the coil packs because it comes and goes and runs fine with your foot in it after take off. Any Ideas or should I use an oil additive and see if it's a sticky valve? Thanks everyone.
